"It's actually a volume a year. He starts the volume in fall/winter, finishes by mid summer with a new volume every fall. Chapter 316-318 were the first part of volume 36. The rest will be out by the end of July. The volume will come out sometime between September-November. He always does at least nine chapters a year.
Unlike westerners who read by the chapter online, most manga is read by the volume in Japan. Berserk fans probably treat it like a yearly, 250p novel rather than a bi-weekly manga. It's more like waiting for the next part in a series of novels, like Harry Potter, than waiting for the next chapter Naruto."
